How do I relax? With a good book and some dreamy music. It helps me relax and sometimes even drift off to sleep. There are some incredible songs that are completely dreamy, slow songs that let you drift to another world. Or it can be fun and feel out of this world. Let’s see some of the best dreamy songs ever.

1. “Hallelujah” – Leonard Cohen

For many of us this is the song from Shrek. But for fans of Leonard Cohen, it was the song that most people think of when they remember the singer. It is such a beautiful song that it can almost be called transformative.

There have been many different covers of the song, and somehow it is one of those songs that sounds beautiful, it doesn’t matter who it is that is singing the song. There are over 300 versions known of this song and it has been used in many different shows and television.

Then in 2016 Cohen died and once again the song was in the spotlight and appeared in a bunch of charts, it even went into the American Billboard Hot 100 chart for the very first time ever.

2. “Hello” – Lionel Richie

This is a golden oldie that is really dreamy and can sound really smooth. It is a stunning song that is one of Lionel Richie’s biggest hits. And it almost didn’t happen.

Lionel Richie was inspired by the phrase “Hello, Is it me you’re looking for?” but he didn’t go on to finish the song since he felt that it could be a tiny bit corny. Then a friend told him to complete it and by the end he was once again in love with the song.

Fans are glad that he did bring it out since it is one of his biggest hits ever. Richie’s smooth voice makes the song just dreamy and soothing to listen to.

3. “Come Away with Me” – Norah Jones

This song takes you away, just like Norah Jones invites you to come. It does transport you to another world. The song is smooth and anyone that was alive during the time it was on the radio will surely remember the start of the song and the chorus.

It was a big hit and also featured In the Jennifer Lopez movie Maid in Manhattan. A movie that is all about a woman that tries to be someone completely different.

It is a dreamy song that is very calming.

4. “La Vie En Rose” – Edith Piaf

The meaning of this song is literally living life in pink. Like seeing the world through a happy lens and trying to always find the beauty in everything. It is an older song that remains dreamy and completely transports you to somewhere else.

It brings joy to your heart, and even if you don’t understand the words, the meaning of the song is completely clear. Often it is not clear exactly where a dreamy song is taking you. But not so with La Vie En Rose. This song takes you to the streets of Paris. Possibly travels you back in time to another point in time too, when the world was glamorous and the fashions beautiful.

There is something even more special about listening to this song when you are actually in France, but it doesn’t matter where you are, this song is really dreamy to listen to.

5. “My Heart Will Go On” – Celine Dion

If you are a person of a certain age, then you just know that this song will make you dream of romance on a fancy boat with incredible outfits. You know, just possibly without the ship sinking by the end of the night.

But the Titanic theme song aside, My Heart Will Go on is also an incredible song that is so smooth and dreamy that it can completely clear your mind and put you in another space. Most of us can clearly remember when we first saw Titanic and heard My Heart Will Go On.

It can bring back memories and take you back to another time in your life. It is one of those great things that music can do. And with dreamy music it can float into your heart and mind. And remind you of someone that you used to care about, or maybe even still do.

6. “All of Me” – John Legend

The love that John Legend speaks about in All of Me is once in a lifetime and one that many people just dream to find. He wrote the song for his wife, Chrissy Teigen, and the music video just shows their sweet relationship. Despite what you think of them as people, you can’t deny that they seem like a pretty solid couple.

The words “All of me, loves all of you… all your perfect imperfections.” Is really lovely. But the melody and chorus really make it a dreamy song. It is a great song to listen to in quiet time that will allow you to relax.

7. “Buzzcut Season” – Lorde

Lorde is one of the recent queens of dreamy music. Even her most upbeat songs have an air of dreaminess to it and will make you think of hot summer nights where you have had a teenage romance. Even if you have never even had one.

It just makes anyone feel young and fun and can make you feel like you are flying on a little cloud. I love Lorde’s entire vibe and her songs are always sure to make you feel good.

Buzzcut Season has some fun lyrics but the melody and the song are really dreamy and the perfect Lorde song for this list.

8. “Dolphin’s Cry” – Live

This is a rock song but one that is really dreamy at the same time. The guitar pieces are great and this is the dreamy song for people who want a bit of a story at the same time. Live has some incredible songs, and they are a really underrated group, but Dolphin’s Cry is still one of their best songs.

When you listen to the lyrics it is a lot racier than you would have ever have thought at first listen, but it is still a beautiful song that is really dreamy. The music video is also really cool to watch too.

Honorable mention to the live song Lightning Crashes that is another dreamy song, but one with a really sad backstory.

9. “Thinking Out Loud” – Ed Sheeran

This song is another great dreamy song about love and life. It has some amazing lyrics about a couple who keeps on loving each other for the entirety of their lives. Until their legs don’t work anymore and when even their memories fade, the speaker promises to keep on loving their partner.

It is a beautiful story of evergreen love that never grows old and never fades. Really beautiful. But as with most of the other dreamy songs it is really the melody that makes the song dreamy.

This one makes you dream of dancing with the person you love around a ball room. Even if you aren’t in love and have no intention of ever falling in love. It is a dreamy song that is upbeat enough to make you want to dance.

10. “What a Wonderful World” – Louis Armstrong

This is just about the dreamiest song you can think of. What a Wonderful World is a happy song with such a great message about the beauty of the world.

The song didn’t perform that well from the start, since some of the network executives didn’t like the song and they didn’t want to promote it. But gradually this dreamy song became the legend that we know today.

Seeing the beauty in the little things is really what this song is about. It is a happy song that allows you to dream about the great place that the world could be. A happy dreamy song that will have you imagining running through a meadow, with rainbows and butterflies all around you.

11. “Chasing Cars” – Snow Patrol

This song has a beat that climbs a bit more than the others, but it still counts as a dreamy song since it does make you feel everything that you are listening to.

This is a song that engages your thoughts and emotions. You don’t entirely know what happens to the couple after the song ends and you can dream about almost any outcome for them. It is beautiful and dreamy and even has just a touch of sadness in the melody and the way that they sing it.

Snow Patrol is the dreamy song that you can sing along to or just quietly listen in the background while you are doing something else.

Dreamy Songs can be Transformational

A dreamy song can make you dream of places and experiences that you have long forgotten about. They are the music that you can sing along to, or slow dance to on a romantic night. These are the songs that you can actively listen to or just use as the background music to your life.

There are many dreamy songs that live in our memories and our hearts. These are just a few of them.
